General Pierce Bridge

The Montague City iron-truss Bridge rapidly takes shape. This view is lookin’ south-south west toward the Greenfield side.

General Pierce Bridge: Opened in December of 1948, the bridge stitches Greenfield with Montague City in the Town of Montague, MA. What was there before the “General”? What did it take to get the “General” built? Who’s it named for?
